The five-book series known as A Court of Thorns and Roses or ACOTAR is set to add a sixth book, hopefully soon. Author Sarah J. Maas wrote the first book in the series in 2015, and the most recent release came in 2021.

If you have read fantasy books, you already know of and have read Sarah J. Maas’ books. She’s one of the most popular fantasy authors, having penned several best-selling book series. All her book series, including Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Crescent City, have become popular worldwide.

There was an ACOTAR TV series adaptation in the works, but it’s been cancelled. However, that hasn’t reduced the series’ popularity in the least. Fans are still eager to hear more from the author and hope that ACOTAR will get a new book soon!

The Throne of Glass series is complete, and so is the Crescent City series, whose third book was released last year. As for the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, there will be new books as revealed by the author herself!

ACOTAR blends romance, fantasy, and fairy tales. The fairy tales of Beauty and the Beast, East of the Sun and West of the Moon, and Tam Lin were said to have inspired the series. While the first book wasn’t published until 2015, she finished the first draft in 2009. According to her, it took a little over a month to complete the first draft.

When it first came out, the book was considered in the Young Adult and New Adult genres, but now it is considered New Adult because of its sexual content. It’s safe to say that the sixth book in this series will follow this format.

There are currently five books in the ACOTAR series – A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, A Court of Frost and Starlight, and A Court of Silver Flames.

Fans are eager to see where the sixth book in the ACOTAR series takes the plot and the characters they have grown to love. Next, we will discuss the information available about the possible release date of A Court of Thorns and Roses book 6.

Is the ACOTAR Book 6 Release Date Announced?

No, the release date for the sixth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series hasn’t been announced yet. There is no information about the book besides Sarah J. Maas revealing she was working on the next book in the series.

If we had to assume, ACOTAR book 6 will likely take some years to be released, considering Crescent City’s final book was released last year, and the fact that the author hasn’t given any concrete update regarding the book!

Previously, the author appeared on a show called “Live Talks Los Angeles” as part of the promotions for her second book in the Crescent City series, House of Sky and Breath.

She talked about her books on this show, including the possibility of a next book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The author’s official website used to refer to the ACOTAR series as an ongoing series, but that’s no longer the case after the site was redesigned.

In the interview, she confirmed that she was drafting the next book in this fan-favorite romantasy series. However, Maas didn’t let anything else slip about the sixth book.

Details can change from draft to draft depending on where she is in the writing stage, so understandably, she doesn’t want to say anything specific yet.

The release date is most likely not going to be anytime soon. She did write the first few books quite quickly, but at this point, the author has many series to work on, along with other writing projects. According to Publishers Weekly, Sarah J. Maas has signed a four-book deal with Bloomsbury Publishing, which doesn’t include the books she’s already writing.

Fans of the author are patiently waiting for any news of when the next book will come out. For those who haven’t caught up with their reading or need a refresher on the plot, the next section is one you will want to pay attention to.

What is the Plot of A Court of Thorns and Roses Series?

The first book in the series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, introduces us to a young woman named Feyre Archeron. Her life changes when she kills a wolf in the woods and is then captured by Tamlin, who is a fae. To make things worse, he is a High Lord of Prythian, making him quite crucial in the fae world.

Feyre is expected to face punishment for killing the wolf, and the last place she expects to end up is living with Tamlin at his estate. The first book introduces her to the fae world and the dangers lurking.

In the second book, A Court of Mist and Fury, Feyre becomes High Fae even though she still clings to her humanity as much as she can. She became a High Fae after surviving many trials. Eventually, we are introduced to Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court, with whom Feyre had to make a deal to save Tamlin’s people and herself. Throw in some fae politics, and things get very messy very quickly.

The third book, A Court of Wings and Ruins, furthers Feyre’s story, who is back in Tamlin’s court but only to spy on him. This book is quite interesting in the series because it sees Feyre getting even more involved in faerie politics, which can be quite deadly.

War is also on the horizon, and she must figure out whom to trust. It’s difficult to gather her allies while navigating court and a war close to breaking out.

will there be a sixth book in the acotar series

The fourth book is A Court of Frost and Starlight, which sees Feyre involved with Rhysand and is now High Lady of the Night Court. It’s a position she is trying her best to adjust to, especially now that the war is over. Recovering from a war is never easy, especially when you are a leader trying to keep your people safe.

With the Winter Solstice approaching, this is as good a time as any to try to raise the spirits of her people. It seems impossible, but if anyone can do it, it would be Feyre.

In the fifth book, A Court of Silver Flames, Feyre isn’t the main character, but her sister, Nesta Archeron, is the focus. She lives in the Night Court but is not adjusting very well.

There is also Cassian, the General of the Night Court, who is dealing with his own demons. The two seem to have a connection and constantly end up in each other’s presence. Whether they want to admit it or not, it isn’t just temper or irritation that comes out when they are together. There’s something else brewing, too!

It’s rumored that the sixth book might continue Nesta’s story, but again, these are just rumors and not something that is a hundred percent confirmed yet.

Conclusion

The A Court of Thorns and Roses series perfectly blends romance, fantasy, and fae. Who doesn’t love fae? They can be clever and cruel creatures, but they are pretty fascinating.

Whether the plot of the sixth book in the series focuses on Feyre or Nesta truly doesn’t matter. Fans of this book will be happy that one of their favorite series will continue. If Nesta is the focus, we’ll see what will happen between her and Cassian.

But all that is just conjecture at this point because no information about the upcoming book has been announced other than the fact that the author revealed that she’s working on it. So, let’s all wait for the announcement of ACOTAR book 6, and then we’ll have a proper conversation on this matter!
