Colleen Hoover’s Hopeless Series started back in 2012 with the first book titled Hopeless, followed by Losing Hope, published in 2013, and Finding Cinderella, a novella, also published in 2013. There is another novella, Finding Perfect, in the Hopeless series, published in 2019, and another book related to the series, All Your Perfects, published in 2018.
Colleen Hoover is one of the most popular authors at the moment, with most of her books becoming best-sellers. I am sure you must have already read one of her famous novels like Verity, or It Ends With Us, and now you want to read her other books. That’s why you landed on this page, looking for information on how to read Hopeless series in order!
The main series consists of 4 books, but there’s another book related to the series, and the author herself has a proper reading order for her fans to read the book series in to make the most out of it!
In this article, we will go through everything you need to know about the Hopeless book series, like what the series is about, the characters featured in the story, the age rating, the order to read the books, and we’ll also see the summaries of each book. So, let’s get started!
Summary of Hopeless Series:
During the series’ first two books, Hopeless and Losing Hope, the focus is on 17-year-old Sky, who falls hard for a guy named Dean Holder. They go through a lot in these two books, with the first book focusing more on Sky while the second book gives details about Dean’s past, and only by reading can you find out if they manage to stay together.
In Finding Cinderella and Finding Perfect, the two novellas, the story is centered on Daniel and Six, the mysterious girl Daniel bumps into one night and desperately tries to find again. The related novel, All Your Perfects, is about Quinn and Graham, who have a struggling marriage and have a lot of secrets from each other.
The thing all these books have in common is that they deal with struggling romances and secrets. One of the biggest romance tropes you’ll find throughout the entire series is the wounded romantic heroes trope, which is exactly how it sounds. There also is the high school romance for Sky, Dean, Daniel, and Six, who are all around high school age.
How Many Books Are in the Hopeless Series?
There are five total books in this entire series. Hopeless and Losing Hope feature Sky and Dean, Finding Cinderella and Finding Perfect feature Daniel and Six, and finally, All Your Perfects has Quinn and Graham.
Since the two novellas focus on Daniel and Six, you might think of reading them first and then All Your Perfects as the final book, but I always recommend reading books in the publication order. In this case, even Colleen Hoover recommends reading All Your Perfects as book four before you read Finding Perfect.
So, the best order to read the Hopeless series would be as follows:
- Hopeless (2012)
- Losing Hope (2013)
- Finding Cinderella (2013)
- All Your Perfects (2018)
- Finding Perfect (2019)
Hopeless Series Characters & Age Rating:
There are six main characters in this series: three females and three males. The first two main characters are Sky and Dean Holder, who are the focus of the first two books, Hopeless and Losing Hope. Sky is a conflicted girl who has fallen head over heels for Dean, a man who terrifies her because he comes off as dangerous and someone who will be in trouble.
Next are Daniel and Six, the main characters of the two novellas, Finding Cinderella and Finding Perfect. Daniel is a young man who becomes captivated by a young woman he hooks up with one night. This woman is Six, who can only be described as a very strange young woman. Finally, in All Your Perfects, we have Quinn and Graham, a married couple full of secrets and despair.
This entire series is very mature, just like most of Colleen Hoover’s books, so it’s recommended that those 17 years old and above read it.
Hopeless Series in Order of Release Date:
1. Hopeless (2012)
In Hopeless, we have a romance between seventeen-year-old Sky and Dean Holder. However, it’s not your average romance because Sky is terrified of her feelings for Dean. She feels drawn to him, which is not something she wants to happen at all. Never has she been the type of girl to want to get involved with someone who just oozes trouble.
Yet, she can’t stop herself from being drawn to him. It doesn’t help that Dean keeps trying to get involved with her, approaching her with such certainty. Eventually, Sky does give in and lets him in because the guy wears her down.
Is this something she is going to regret? Sky feels like it’s something she will soon regret, especially when she learns of the secrets that Dean has been keeping from her… secrets that involve her. What the heck is a girl to do in such a situation?
2. Losing Hope (2013)
Losing Hope is the exciting sequel to Hopeless, which sees Sky falling for Dean Holder and reluctantly letting him in.
She always knew that Dean had some secrets, and she was right. Dean Holder has many secrets that he has tried his best to keep from Sky. He doesn’t want her to know because he’s afraid that once she learns the truth, she will want nothing more to do with him.
The secret involves a little girl he’s thought about for years. He’s searched high and low for her. Thankfully, he eventually finds her, but it doesn’t end up how he wants it to. All Dean can do is reach out and tell Sky the truth… the whole truth.
As the saying goes, the truth will set you free. Dean prays that this is true because if it isn’t, he might lose the one he loves.
3. Finding Cinderella (2013)
Finding Cinderella is centered around two new characters introduced into the Hopeless Series. It starts with Daniel, an eighteen-year-old man, and Six, a young woman who is as strange as her name is. The two meet one day, but they are not strangers.
About a year ago, Daniel and Six bumped into each other one day and pretended to be in love. After an hour, it would end, and it would be as if nothing ever happened. Despite this, that hour proved to be one of the best hours in Daniel’s entire life. When the girl rushes off after an hour, he is left very confused and heartbroken beyond belief.
Yet, here she is, standing in front of him a year later. He feels like this is a chance for true love… at least, this is how it seems on the surface.
4. All Your Perfects (2018)
In All Your Perfects, we are introduced to Quinn and Graham, who seem to have everything going for them. They are married, and while things look good on the outside, things are terrible on the inside. Their marriage is terrible, and it’s safe to say it’s going down the tubes.
It’s been years since this has been going on, and the reason is a mixture of things. Both Quinn and Graham made mistakes and kept secrets from each other, leading to the problems they are currently facing.
The couple only has one of two options. They can either end the relationship and get a divorce or somehow find a way to fix their marriage. Fixing it almost seems impossible, but stranger things have happened. Maybe… just maybe, the two can repair what has been broken for years. If they don’t, then the only option is to divorce.
5. Finding Perfect (2019)
Remember Finding Cinderella, the book written in 2013 about Six and Daniel; this book, Finding Perfect, brings the focus back on the two. They met one fateful night in what seemed like a fairy tale. The night they met, they spent one hour together, but it felt as if the two fell madly in love during that hour. Then the hour passed, and Six ran off, leaving Daniel behind.
They eventually ran into each other a year later. Daniel is shocked to run into the girl he has spent a year dreaming about, but once they meet again, the fairy tale starts to fade, and reality hits.
In Finding Perfect, the reader gets a chance to see the entire book through Daniel’s POV. By the end of the book, the reader will be on the very edge of their seat, desperately hoping that Daniel and Six will be able to get together.
