If you are a fan of the Fourth Wing book, and The Empyrean series in general, there’s some good news for you. The Fourth Wing TV series has been announced and is currently under development at Amazon MGM Studios!
Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing is a recently released book that came out in May 2023, but it has become a massive phenomenon in a very short time. Its sequel, Iron Flame, came out in November 2023, just six months after the release of the first book, and it, too, has been positively received by fans worldwide.
The best part about the announcement of the Fourth Wing book being adapted into a TV series is that not has only Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to the first book, but it has acquired the rights to the follow-up book, Iron Flame, and the 3 planned books in the series, too.
The Fourth Wing series focuses on a twenty-year-old woman named Violet Sorrengail, who is in her first year in Rider Quadrant. She has quite an important task at hand,d which will see her needing to bond with a dragon and train to become a dragon rider. If she can’t do this, she won’t be able to become a warrior to fight in the war going on in her kingdom.
As the TV adaptation has been announced, you’d want to know when it is coming out, who is developing it, which actors will star in it, and more. So, let’s talk about everything we know about the Fourth Wing TV adaptation so far!
Fourth Wing TV Series Plot Expectations:
It’s expected that the Fourth Wing TV series will heavily rely on the first book in the Empyrean series, also titled Fourth Wing.
As the book will be adapted into a TV series with multiple episodes, fans are hoping to get a fleshed-out story that follows the book’s plot very closely. If it were adapted into a movie, many of the story’s details would have been lost!
This book focuses on Violet Sorrengail, who is 20 years old and going to a war college to become one of the dragon riders, though this is simplifying the plot at best.
Violet originally wanted to join the Scribe Quadrant, which would enable her to study books and learn more about history for a living. However, her mother has decided that’s not what she should do. She has ordered her daughter to join the Riders Quadrant and train to become a dragon rider. Although Violet doesn’t want to do this, she has no choice.
To become a dragon rider, she has to bond with a dragon, which is already a difficult task even for a strong human. But for one with a physically weak body like her, it’ll be almost impossible.
Even if she manages to survive and bond with a dragon, she will be forced to fight in the kingdom’s war alongside Xaden Riorson, a wingleader in the Riders Quadrant, who hates Violet’s mother and has no issues with making Violet’s life hell just for being her daughter.
This puts a lot on Violet’s shoulders, but because of her mother, she sees little choice but to agree that this is what she has to do.
Who is Developing the Fourth Wing TV Series?
Amazon and Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society, acquired the rights to the book series, with Amazon MGM creating the series.
Amazon MGM has created many original programming over the years, so it isn’t like they don’t have experience under their belt.
In addition, the author herself is set to be an executive producer on the series, along with Liz Pelletier, who is an editor. With these two people acting as executive producers, it’s safe to say that the TV series will be quite a faithful adaptation.
One fear when adapting books to movies or TV shows is that they will not be faithful to the books. However, if done correctly, the result will be pretty enjoyable, captivating, and fun.
Ultimately, it seems like The Fourth Wing is indeed in good hands. But we have to wait and see how the end product turns out!
Who is the Cast of the Fourth Wing TV Series?
The series has just been announced, so there is no official cast listing out yet. You can expect that there won’t be any announcement for a cast for at least a year or two.
However, this won’t stop people from doing something called fan casting, and it has already started. However, I will not get into that because I want to focus only on official news.
So, when an official cast is announced for the TV series, I will update this section!
Is the Fourth Wing TV Series Release Date Announced?
The rights to the Fourth Wing book series have just been acquired, so the chances of any release date being announced anytime soon are unlikely. It will likely be at least a year or two before such an announcement is made.
Creating a movie takes a long time, but producing a TV show takes even longer because you have to film multiple episodes. Scripts need to be written, casting needs to take place, and most importantly, the filming needs to be done as well!
So, it will be some time before we have a release date for the Fourth Wing TV series and even longer before it is ultimately released!
So, as fans, we have to be patient. As they say, patience is a virtue, and the more patient we can be, the better the chances we will get a faithful TV adaptation of the series!
Where Will The Fourth Wing TV Series Stream?
It’s not officially known where the series will stream, but since Amazon has acquired the rights to the series, it won’t be wrong to assume that the series will stream on Amazon Prime.
Amazon Prime is one of the several streaming services that come out there, and with a Prime subscription, you can access quite a few original series along with several movies and TV shows in their content library.
Again, nothing has been announced yet. It’s just likely that Amazon will stream it on its own streaming service since it has the rights to the books in the series, and not just the one book but all five that are set to be released, according to the author.
Conclusion
The Fourth Wing book was only released early this year, with the second in the series coming out in November 2023, and the author has announced there will be a total of five books in the series.
Given how much this book has blown up on social media and gathered fans from all walks of life, it’s likely that the anticipation for this series’ TV adaptation is high.
If you haven’t read the books, now is the best time to do it! Because we won’t get to see just one book’s content in the Fourth Wing TV series, we will see all the books in the series getting a TV adaptation!
