If you are a fan of the Fourth Wing book, and The Empyrean series in general, there’s some good news for you. The Fourth Wing TV series has been announced and is currently under development at Amazon MGM Studios!

Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing came out in May 2023 and instantly became a massive phenomenon. Its sequel, Iron Flame, came out in November 2023, just six months after the first book’s release, and the third book, Onyx Storm, was released in January 2025.

The best part about the announcement of the Fourth Wing book being adapted into a TV series is that not only has Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to the first book, but it has acquired the rights to the follow-up books, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm, and the remaining 2 planned books in the series, too.

The Fourth Wing series focuses on a twenty-year-old woman named Violet Sorrengail, who is in her first year in Rider Quadrant. She has quite an important task, which will require her to bond with a dragon and train to become a dragon rider. If she can’t do this, she won’t be able to become a warrior to fight in the war going on in her kingdom.

As the TV adaptation has been announced, you’d want to know when it is coming out, who is developing it, which actors will star in it, and more. So, let’s talk about everything we know about the Fourth Wing TV adaptation so far!

Fourth Wing TV Series Plot Expectations:

It’s expected that the Fourth Wing TV series will heavily rely on the first book in the Empyrean series, also titled Fourth Wing.

As the book will be adapted into a TV series with multiple episodes, fans hope to get a fleshed-out story that closely follows the book’s plot. If it were adapted into a movie, many of the story’s details would have been lost!

This book focuses on Violet Sorrengail, who is 20 years old and going to a war college to become one of the dragon riders, though this is simplifying the plot at best.

Violet originally wanted to join the Scribe Quadrant, which would enable her to study books and learn more about history for a living. However, her mother has decided that’s not what she should do. She has ordered her daughter to join the Riders Quadrant and train to become a dragon rider. Although Violet doesn’t want to do this, she has no choice.

To become a dragon rider, she has to bond with a dragon, which is already difficult even for a strong human. But for one with a physically weak body like hers, it’ll be almost impossible.

Even if she manages to survive and bond with a dragon, she will be forced to fight in the kingdom’s war alongside Xaden Riorson, a wingleader in the Riders Quadrant, who hates Violet’s mother and has no issues with making Violet’s life hell just for being her daughter.

This puts a lot on Violet’s shoulders, but because of her mother, she sees little choice but to agree that this is what she has to do.

Who is Developing the Fourth Wing TV Series?

Amazon and Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society, acquired the rights to the book series, with Amazon MGM creating the series.

In addition, Rebecca Yarros, the book’s author, is set to be an executive producer on the series, along with Liz Pelletier, an editor. With these two people acting as executive producers, it’s safe to say that the TV series will be a pretty faithful adaptation.

Along with them, Michael B. Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, and Stefano Agosto will also serve as the executive producers!

As for the most recent update, Outlier Society announced last year that Moira Walley-Beckett, who is best known for writing/producing Breaking Bad, will be the showrunner and executive producer for the TV adaptation.

One fear when adapting books to movies or TV shows is that they will not be faithful to the books. However, if done correctly, the result will be pretty enjoyable, captivating, and fun.

Ultimately, it seems like The Fourth Wing is indeed in good hands. But we have to wait and see how the end product turns out!

Who is the Cast of the Fourth Wing TV Series?

Although the series was announced in 2023, we still don’t have any word on the official casting. However, this is pretty normal because it takes a while to get things off the ground, and this will be a big project, so everything needs to be perfect!

But this won’t stop people from doing fan casting, and it began when the news first came out. However, I will not get into that because I want to focus only on official news.

So, when an official cast is announced for the TV series, I will update this section!

Is the Fourth Wing TV Series Release Date Announced?

Since the project seems to be in the pre-production stage and no cast members have been revealed, the chances of any release date being announced anytime soon are unlikely.

Creating a movie takes a long time, but producing a TV show takes longer because you must film multiple episodes. Scripts need to be written, casting needs to take place, and most importantly, the filming needs to be done well!

So, it will be some time before we have a release date for the Fourth Wing TV series and even longer before it is ultimately released!

So, as fans, we have to be patient. As they say, patience is a virtue, and the more patient we can be, the better the chances we will get a faithful TV adaptation of the series!

Where Will The Fourth Wing TV Series Stream?

It’s not officially known where the series will stream, but since Amazon has acquired its rights, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume it will stream on Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime is one of the several streaming services that are out there. With a Prime subscription, you can access several original series, movies, and TV shows in their content library.

Again, nothing has been announced yet. Amazon will likely stream it on its own streaming service since it has the rights to the books in the series, not just the one book, but all five that are set to be released, according to the author.

Conclusion

Given how much this book has blown up on social media and gathered fans from all walks of life, it’s likely that the anticipation for this series’ TV adaptation is high.

If you haven’t read the books, now is the best time to do it! Because we won’t get to see just one book’s content in the Fourth Wing TV series, we will see all the books in the series getting a TV adaptation!
