Colleen Hoover has built a reputation for romances that strike a deep chord—encompassing love, loss, and everything messy in between. Reminders of Him, one of her most beloved standalone novels released in 2022, struck a chord with millions.
Now Hoover’s story of forgiveness, motherhood, and rebuilding what was broken is getting the big-screen treatment, as the Reminders of Him movie adaptation is nearing its release, and fans are already feeling something stirring in their hearts.
The author hasn’t always been mainstream, but she has become one of the most talked-about authors in contemporary romance.
Beginning with self-published and indie work, like Slammed and Hopeless, she gradually grew a large, passionate following. Her books are known for their raw emotion, imperfect characters, and stories that prompt you to sit with tough feelings before letting them go.
What stands out about Reminders of Him is how she writes about the possibility of a second chance—not just in love, but in life. For Kenna Rowan, the heroine, it’s not just about winning someone back, but being forgiven by a town, by a daughter, and by herself after a long absence.
The adaptation was officially announced in October 2024, when Universal Pictures acquired the rights. Hoover teamed with Lauren Levine to write the screenplay; later in December, Vanessa Caswill was confirmed as director.
Colleen Hoover has found success in book-to-movie adaptations, as evidenced by the success of It Ends With Us, which was, to say the least, controversial in its own right. And she’s got two more movies based on her novels, Regretting You and Verity, lined up for release.
What makes the Reminders of Him movie adaptation particularly notable is Colleen Hoover’s involvement, not only as original author but also as screenwriter and producer through her own production company. That tends to give fans hope the movie will carry forward the emotional core of the book, not just its plot beats.
Reminders of Him Movie – Official Trailer:
Reminders of Him Movie Release Date:
The film Reminders of Him is scheduled for release in the United States on March 13, 2026!
Earlier, it was scheduled for release on February 13, 2026, but was later changed to February 6 to position the movie better for a pre-Valentine’s Day release.
However, it was recently revealed that the release date has been pushed back by more than a month, and it will now be released in theaters in March 2026.
What Will Be The Plot of the Reminders of Him Movie?
The movie’s plot will remain the same as the book, but we can expect some minor adjustments to ensure a seamless transition from page to screen. However, as Colleen Hoover herself was involved in the scriptwriting process and is one of the producers of the movie, the main essence of the story won’t be lost, and you will still feel the same emotions watching the film that you felt reading the book.
The book centers on Kenna Rowan, who has returned to her hometown after serving a five-year prison sentence. All she wants now is to reconnect with her four-year-old daughter, Diem, whom she barely knows. But being home isn’t as simple as arriving; it means walking through judgment, regret, and relationships that have been broken by time.
Ledger Ward, the local bar owner, is one of the few people who hasn’t entirely shut Kenna out. He has ties to her past, and his child’s well-being is intricately linked to Kenna’s desire to do right, even when everyone else seems to have moved on.
As Kenna attempts to heal and rebuild, she must face painful truths, risk rejection, and decide what forgiveness is worth.
If you haven’t read the book, here’s the official synopsis, which will give you an idea of what to expect from the upcoming movie adaptation:
After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild.
Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself. The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter.
But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to overcome the mistakes of her past in order to build a future founded on hope and healing.
