Following the trend of adapting Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novels into movies, we have another of her popular books getting an adaptation. The Verity movie adaptation has been announced, and we have the first teaser trailer as well!
If you’ve read Verity by Colleen Hoover, you already know it’s not the kind of book you forget. It’s one of her darkest, most debated novels—and now, it’s getting the big-screen treatment.
The psychological thriller surprised readers when it first came out in 2018, and it hasn’t stopped making waves since. From BookTok buzz to late-night group chats over “that ending,” Verity is the kind of story that sticks with you and begs to be adapted.
So, fans lost their mind when news dropped that Verity was being turned into a movie. The film rights were picked up by Amazon MGM Studios, a major player in the book-to-screen trend, and the studio has also announced the release date. The movie is scheduled for release in October 2026!
Verity is one of Colleen Hoover’s many book-to-screen adaptations coming to theaters after the wild success (and drama) around It Ends With Us. Besides Verity, we had the Reminders of Him movie, which was released in March this year, and the Regretting You movie, which was released last year.

Verity Movie Adaptation – Release Date:
The movie is set to hit theaters on October 2, 2026, through Amazon MGM Studios. That’s a little over a year away, but production is complete, so things are progressing smoothly.
Previously, the release date was set for May 2026, but it has since been postponed to October 2026!
As for where the movie will stream, it will likely land on Prime Video as Amazon MGM Studios is producing it. However, the movie will first have a theatrical release, so we’ll have to wait at least a couple of months before it’s added to Prime Video.
Who is the Cast in the Verity Movie?
The movie adaptation has a star-studded cast with actors you know and love. Here’s who is playing who in the upcoming film:

- Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh
- Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford, Verity’s husband.

What is the Plot of the Verity Movie Adaptation?
For anyone unfamiliar with Colleen Hoover—first, where have you been?—she’s a juggernaut in the world of emotional fiction. Her books span romance, tragedy, suspense, and more, often with morally messy characters and plot twists that leave readers reeling.
But Verity is a different beast. It’s not a feel-good love story. It’s a dark, twisty, edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller with one of the most jaw-dropping endings in recent memory.
The book follows Lowen Ashleigh, a down-on-her-luck writer who desperately needs a job as she’s not doing well financially. However, she receives a once-in-a-lifetime job offer when Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, hires her to complete his wife’s unfinished books.
You see, Verity Crawford was in a mysterious accident which left her unable to move and not able to write. So, Lowen moves into the Crawfords’ eerie, upscale home to dig through Verity’s notes—only to stumble across a manuscript that reveals dark secrets Verity never meant for anyone to see.
This unfinished manuscript contains dark secrets about Verity’s life, past, and what she has done and hidden from her husband.
As Lowen learns more about the family and the author from her writing, she has to decide if Verity’s writing is just a work of fiction or if she is a psychopath who has written an autobiography, noting every event in vivid detail and her motivations behind it.
