If you are a huge Glee fan, you might recognise Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel in the fictional McKinley High School—the boy who captured our hearts with his high-pitched vocals and out-of-this-world fashion sense. If you are wondering what he has been up to lately, wonder no more!
He is now a renowned children’s and young adult fantasy author. His popular children’s book series, The Land of Stories, is finally getting adapted into a live-action film by Warner Bros.
Colfer began his writing career back in 2011, when he secured a two-book deal with Little, Brown and Company to write children’s novels. His first book, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, was released in July 2012 and instantly became a bestseller.
It is therefore no surprise that Warner Bros are adapting the book into a film. The news came in July 2025, when Warner Bros. announced that it had acquired the rights to adapt Colfer’s bestselling book series, The Land of Stories, for film.
The news was met with nostalgic optimism, as fans who grew up reading the series have been praying for this. Most fans were eager to see whether the film would stay true to the books.
They took to social media to celebrate and share their cast requests. As expected, most of them wanted a Chris Colfer cameo. As to whether he will make an appearance, we will have to watch the movie to see!
What will be the Plot of The Land of Stories Movie?
The movie is expected to stay true to the book. Colfer has rejected adaptation deals in the past to protect the novel’s integrity. This is serious business for him, and he won’t compromise. As such, we expect the movie to uphold his vision.
According to the official logline, the movie will bring to life the story of Alex and Conner Bailey. The twins are transported to a magical world, full of adventures. To safely return home, the twins must complete the “Wishing Spell.”
They embark on the quest to collect the specific items while fighting dark forces from the evil queen, who wants the spell for her dark use. Along the way, the twins meet fairy-tale creatures, like Cinderella, Snow White, and many more.

Casting & Production Updates:
Maybe a Colfer cameo? Who knows! What we do know is that he will be taking part in the project as a screenwriter and producer. Colfer insisted on having creative control to protect his work.
In an interview with Publishers Weekly, he stated, “I don’t want it to be someone’s interpretation of The Land of Stories. What they say about books made into films is that a great adaptation will immortalize the book, but a terrible movie will kill it.”
It was also announced that Phil Johnston will be joining the project as a screenwriter alongside Colfer. The casting is currently ongoing. We will let you know who will be playing the coveted main character roles.
The Land of Stories Movie Release Date:
We are a long way from a release date. It will take at least two years before we get to see this movie on our screens.
Unfortunately, production, especially for fantasy films, takes a while.
If we are lucky, this will be the movie to watch in late 2027 or later!
