Percy Jackson and the Olympians is currently one of Disney+’s biggest shows; Season 3 is set to premiere on November 20, 2026, and Rick Riordan just won two Emmy Awards for his work on it.
So what does he do next? He brings Carter and Sadie Kane to the same universe. We have been waiting for this news for years, and it’s finally happening.
Nexus Point News has exclusively reported that a series adaptation of The Kane Chronicles is moving forward in development at Disney+ through 20th Television. Rick Riordan will co-create the project alongside Angela Robinson, who previously directed episodes of Netflix’s Wednesday.
After the Netflix film trilogy based on this series was canceled in 2024, Riordan got the rights back and looked for the right home. Turns out the right home was the same one already hosting Percy Jackson.
What Is The Kane Chronicles About?
While Percy Jackson operates in the world of Greek mythology, The Kane Chronicles opens up the Egyptian pantheon. It does so through two protagonists who bring a completely different energy to the Riordanverse.
Carter and Sadie Kane are siblings who grew up largely apart after their mother’s death. Carter traveled the world with their archaeologist father, while Sadie was raised in London by their maternal grandparents. They are mixed-race—their father is Black American, their mother was white British—and Riordan centers their dual identity with care throughout the series.
When their father is captured by the Egyptian god Set during a visit to the British Museum, Carter and Sadie discover they are descended from the two greatest pharaohs in Egyptian history: Narmer and Ramses the Great. They are among the most powerful magicians in the world, and they had no idea.
The three novels follow them as they master Egyptian magic, navigate the House of Life (a secret society of Egyptian magicians who are not exactly thrilled to see them), and face down increasingly dangerous threats from the gods who are very much still alive and extremely active in the modern world.
Book One: The Red Pyramid
The first novel introduces the Kane siblings and sets the entire mythology in motion. Carter and Sadie narrate alternately—in first person, in their own distinct voices—a structural choice that immediately distinguishes the series from Percy Jackson and gives both characters equal weight from the very first page.
When Julius Kane attempts to release the god Osiris at the Rosetta Stone, Set is also accidentally unleashed, and Julius is imprisoned inside a golden coffin.
Carter and Sadie must find their father, understand their heritage, and stop Set from destroying North America with a chaos pyramid, all within a matter of days.
Book Two: The Throne of Fire
The second installment picks up three months after the events of The Red Pyramid, with Carter and Sadie now training a new generation of magicians at Brooklyn House—an Egyptian magical training facility, essentially their version of Camp Half-Blood—while an even more urgent threat looms.
The chaos serpent Apophis, the Egyptian embodiment of destruction, is rising and threatening to swallow the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness.
To stop him, Carter and Sadie must resurrect the sun god Ra, who has been sleeping since antiquity, by retrieving the three sections of the Book of Ra before Apophis breaks free.
Book Three: The Serpent’s Shadow
The final installment brings everything to a head in a confrontation with Apophis that the entire series has been building toward. Carter and Sadie must find a way to destroy a god of chaos who, by his very nature, cannot be killed by conventional means.
The shadow magic introduced in this volume is among the most imaginative world-building Riordan has done across his entire body of work.
The novel also deepens the Kane siblings’ individual romantic storylines—Carter’s with Zia Rashid, Sadie’s tangled situation involving both Walt and Anubis—and brings both characters to a genuinely satisfying conclusion.
The series is also notable for the way it handles the crossover potential of the Riordanverse. Carter and Sadie appear in a Percy Jackson crossover novella, and the Disney+ series is reportedly being developed within the same shared universe as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which opens extraordinary possibilities for future character interactions on screen.
The Creative Team
Angela Robinson is Riordan’s co-creator on the project. Her credits include directing episodes of Wednesday Season 2, writing several episodes of How to Get Away with Murder and True Blood, and directing the feature Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. Whether she will direct the series itself remains unconfirmed, though it seems likely given her involvement.
20th Television, which produces Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has officially acquired the rights and is developing the series for Disney+. Disney has not officially announced the project, and no cast, premiere date, or episode count has been confirmed.
Riordan will serve as writer and executive producer (the same creative role he holds on Percy Jackson), meaning Carter and Sadie’s story will have the same authorial oversight that has made the Percy Jackson series so faithful and well-regarded.
