I didn’t expect His & Hers to become the thing everyone was talking about this year, and I should have. It is an Alice Feeney novel after all, so it becoming a streaming phenomenon was a given.
But the scale of what happened when it landed on Netflix—one of the platform’s most-watched series ever, a cultural moment, the kind of show that people finished at 2 am and immediately texted someone about—genuinely surprised even the most optimistic observers.
Now, barely nine months later, the entire creative team is back together. Twist, Feeney’s upcoming novel, is officially in development as a series, with the same studio, the same writer-director, and the same producing partners who made His & Hers such a phenomenon.
Alice Feeney’s reaction to the reunion says everything:
“Having had such a wonderful experience with His & Hers, it was a very easy decision to get the band back together for Twist. It feels like a dream come true. I love this book, I love this team, and I can’t wait to see these characters come to life on screen.”
Who Is Alice Feeney?
Alice Feeney is a British author and former BBC journalist whose psychological thrillers have earned her a devoted global readership and, increasingly, Hollywood’s full attention.
She published her debut novel, Sometimes I Lie, in 2018, followed by I Know Who You Are, His & Hers, Rock Paper Scissors, Daisy Darker, Beautiful Ugly, and most recently Twist, which will be published in February 2027. Her books are known for their unreliable narrators, their precisely constructed reveals, and a very specific talent for making you trust characters you absolutely should not trust.
Her BBC journalism background shows in the pacing of her prose. She builds cases. She lays evidence. And then she dismantles everything you thought you understood in the final act. Rock Paper Scissors is currently in development as a limited series at AMC.
His & Hers, based on her 2020 novel of the same name, premiered on Netflix on January 8, 2026, and quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched series ever, accumulating over 104 million views.
The six-episode limited series stars Tessa Thompson as journalist Anna Andrews and Jon Bernthal as her estranged husband and detective Jack Harper, and its finale became one of the year’s most talked-about television moments.
What Is Alice Feeney’s Twist About?
Twist follows the same thematic territory that His & Hers colonized so successfully: secrets, complicated relationships, and crimes. It is not a sequel, and neither Bernthal nor Thompson has been announced as part of its cast.
The novel’s central conceit follows a protagonist who appears to be living two entirely different lives at once. In one, she is married to Noah and has a daughter. The specifics of the second life, and how those two realities intersect, are the mystery the series will be built around.
It is precisely the kind of premise that William Oldroyd’s controlled, deliberately paced directorial style was made for.
The Team Getting Back Together
Oldroyd returns to write and direct the series. The studio company Fifth Season is back, joined again by Kristen Campo’s Campout Productions, Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael’s Freckle Films, and Bill Dubuque and Tessa Thompson’s Viva Maude.
Executive producers include Oldroyd, Campo, Chastain, Dubuque, Thompson, Kelly Carmichael, and Kishori Rajan.
Fifth Season’s Noah Greenshner was direct about what the team is reaching for:
“Twist gives us the opportunity to reunite an extraordinary creative team around yet another brilliant, gripping thriller from Alice Feeney. The incredible success of His & Hers demonstrated what this group can accomplish together, and we’re thrilled to continue that relationship with Alice, William, and Bill, as well as our partners at Campout Productions, Freckle Films, and Viva Maude.”
No cast has been announced, and no premiere date has been set. Twist, the novel, publishes in early 2027, with the adaptation to follow.
The Rug Pull You Are Not Ready For
If you still haven’t watched His & Hers, stop reading this and go fix that immediately. It’s only six episodes, and you can watch Thompson and Bernthal at the top of their respective games. Plus, there’s that finale that had people convinced they had seen every possible twist coming, and then proved them spectacularly wrong.
Twist publishes in early 2027. The adaptation is already in development, and Alice Feeney is about to shock us all over again.
