From the bleachers to the rink, there’s a story waiting to be told—and now it’s hitting the screen. The beloved Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy is getting a full-fledged TV adaptation, and fans of steamy romance, college life, and hockey aren’t the only ones tuning in.

It’s a moment the author’s devoted readers have been waiting for, and for new audiences, it’s a fresh door into one of contemporary romance’s most addictive worlds!

Her Off Campus series changed the game in college-set sports romance. With the fictional Briar University’s hockey stars driving each plotline, the author seamlessly blended humor, tension, identity, friendship, and love in a world rarely seen at the center of romance. The series’s success kicked off a broader universe of Briar U spin-offs, proving that her fans were ready to dive deeper.

When the TV adaptation of her most popular series was announced in October 2024, the reaction was extremely positive. The series promises more than romance; it aims to bring camaraderie, triumphs, heartbreak, and personal growth right into the streaming spotlight.

And now it’s been revealed that the first season of the Off Campus TV series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in May 2026!

The Off Campus series consists of five books—The Deal, The Mistake, The Score, The Goal, and The Legacy—and the TV adaptation is likely to tackle one book per season. The first season adapts The Deal, the first book in the series!

In the sections below, we’ll walk you through what we know so far: the cast and production updates, how the adaptation is handling the story, when it might arrive, and whether you should read the books before watching the adaptation.

What is the Plot of the Off Campus TV Series?

The first season adapts the first novel in the series, focusing on Hannah Wells, a music major who has no interest in the hockey world, and Garrett Graham, the charismatic star of Briar University’s elite hockey team.

Their worlds collide when a tutoring arrangement in which Hannah helps Garrett academically in exchange for a fake date, which sparks real feelings and unexpected complications.

Being a series allows the development of characters beyond the central pair—friends, teammates, and rivals—and shows how the rink’s world, along with the house that hosts these hockey players, is its own ecosystem.

This development of the other characters is important because each book in the series focuses on a different couple. So the next seasons of the adaptation will feature the supporting characters becoming the main characters. The series will be like what Bridgerton is doing with its new seasons!

If you haven’t read the books yet, check out the official synopsis of the first book to know what to expect from it and the upcoming adaptation:

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction.

If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice, even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date; and it’s going to be oh so good!

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it.

But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretending isn’t going to cut it. Now he has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Casting & Production Updates:

Amazon MGM Studios officially ordered the series adaptation of Off Campus in October 2024. Showrunner and creator Louisa Levy is attached to bring the world of Briar U to life, alongside co-showrunner Gina Fattore.

The author, Elle Kennedy, is serving as one of the producers on the show, alongside Annika Patton.

The casting for Season 1 was announced in May 2025, with Ella Bright as Hannah Wells and Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham leading the main story.

Supporting cast members include Mika Abdalla, Antonio Cipriano (lead of Book 2), Stephen Kalyn (lead of Book 3), Jalen Thomas Brooks (lead of Book 4), and Josh Heuston.

First look photos released in August 2025 show the cast suited up in full hockey gear, bringing the Briar U ice to life with energy and charisma. Filming has begun, and the creators describe the tone as “mature, steamy, and sex-positive.”

The series recently added 18 new recurring cast members, including AJ Abell, Francesca Bianchi, Kai Bradbury, Karis Cameron, Josh Chambers, Riley Davis, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Quinten James, Dylan Kingwell, Riley Orr, Lauren Patten, Frankie Randysek, Brandon Scott, Jennifer Spence, Julia Sarah Stone, Marlee Walchuk, and Chad Willett.

Should You Read the Books Instead?

Absolutely! Diving into the Off Campus series before watching gives you access to the original characters, motivations, and emotional arcs that made the books so beloved.

Each novel centers on a different couple at Briar University, so you’ll appreciate the broader context and upcoming seasons better, as the supporting characters from one season take the lead in the other!

Plus, when adaptation changes happen (they inevitably do), you’ll be able to spot what was preserved, what was altered, and how it affects your connection to the characters. In a story where team bonds and individual growth are at the heart, reading first often amplifies your viewing experience.

So, start reading the books now and make sure you are done before the Off Campus TV series is released, as that will help you appreciate the show even more!
