One of the best contemporary romance novels, You Deserve Each Other, by author Sarah Hogle, is going to be made into a feature-length film!
Published on April 7, 2020, You Deserve Each Other was a hit with romantic comedy fans all across the globe. Although its sales figures haven’t been publicly disclosed, the book is well-loved by fans worldwide and is one of the highest-rated romance novels. It was also selected as an Amazon Editor’s pick for best romance, indicating a great reception.
So, it wasn’t that big of a surprise when the You Deserve Each Other movie adaptation was announced. It was just surprising that it took this long. But considering that rights to many novels are being optioned right now, and the rom-com genre is making a comeback, I think this is the perfect time for this book to become a movie!
Sarah Hogle’s debut novel is the perfect combination of lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance, and small town rolled into one hilarious but heartwarming novel.
In this romantic comedy, Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose appear to be the perfect couple and are months away from getting married, but looks can be deceiving. Deep down, they can’t stand each other and want out of the marriage. That is a fun plot, and a perfect setting for a romantic comedy.
On June 30, the movie adaptation of You Deserve Each Other was officially announced. The cast for the film has been revealed, and filming has also begun. So, let’s talk about everything we know about the movie and when it will be released!
What is the Plot of the You Deserve Each Other Movie?
As with most book-to-screen adaptations, the overall plot is often diluted to better match the movie’s length. If it’s not being adapted into a TV series, the book’s plot will be trimmed so that the runtime of the film isn’t affected.
That would most certainly be the case with the movie adaptation of You Deserve Each Other as well. However, I don’t think the major plotlines would change because that would be pointless.
You Deserve Each Other focuses on Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose, an engaged couple who are about to tie the knot in three months. People look at Naomi and think she has hit the jackpot. Nicholas is polite, loving, and comes from an upstanding family. Plus, they never fight!
But Naomi has a secret; she can’t stand her fiancé. She wants to get the heck out of the relationship. The reason she hasn’t ended the engagement is that whoever ends it will be forced to pay the nonrefundable wedding bill.
If you haven’t read the book, which you should read right now, here’s the official synopsis to get a better idea:
Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of. They never fight. They’re preparing for their lavish wedding that’s three months away. And she is miserably and utterly sick of him.
Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.
But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping. Because now that they have nothing to lose, they’re finally being themselves–and having fun with the last person they expect: each other.
