What if you only had one week to fall in love again with the one who got away? Would you take the chance, or would you forever live in regret, wondering what could have been? Can the steamy make-out sessions heal the broken heart and the wounds from the last time he held you in his hands?
Well, that is the dilemma Eva finds herself in the popular romance novel, Seven Days in June. The best news is that the novel is finally coming to life as a TV adaptation!
In February 2024, Will Packer Media and Kinetic Content announced that they had acquired the rights to Tia Williams’s hit novel, Seven Days in June, and plan to turn it into a Prime Video series.
The news of the adaptation was met with positive reactions, as fans can’t wait to see the modern black romance story come to life.
Tia Williams is no rookie when it comes to the romance genre that will have you believing in love and falling for fictional characters. She started writing back in 2004 as a fashion blog editor. She is currently the editorial director of the Estée Lauder Companies.
Her first novel, The Accidental Diva, released in 2004, received positive reviews. She then collaborated with Iman to write The Beauty of Color. She followed that up with It Chicks and It Chicks: Sixteen Candles. Her 2016 novel, Perfect Find, was acquired by Netflix and adapted into a movie starring Gabrielle Union and Keith Powers.
With many excited about the Seven Days in June adaptation, it is important that the TV series maintains the story’s authenticity and chooses the right cast to play the characters.
What will be the Plot of the Seven Days in June TV Series?
At the heart of it, ‘Seven Days in June’ is a steamy second-chance romance novel. The angst, the yearning, and the wit of the story are integral. It is a story of two Black authors who reconnect after twenty years.
However, this time, they are not teenagers unaware of the wounds love can bring. Yet, the embers of their past relationship still stir inside them. The attraction and desire are as present as their unresolved trauma.
It is a story of healing, finding the grace to forgive, and breaking generational bonds.
The TV Series is expected to bring to life Eva and Shane’s vulnerabilities as they reconnect at a literary conference. With only seven days to figure things out, can they build a stronger future together?
If you haven’t yet read the book, here’s the official synopsis so you know exactly what to expect from the book and the upcoming TV adaptation:
Brooklynite Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer, who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning literary author who, to everyone’s surprise, shows up in New York.
When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried past traumas but also the eyebrows of New York’s Black literati. What no one knows is that twenty years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. They may be pretending that everything is fine now, but they can’t deny their chemistry – or the fact that they’ve been secretly writing to each other in their books ever since.
Over the next seven days in the middle of a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect, but Eva’s not sure how she can trust the man who broke her heart, and she needs to get him out of New York so that her life can return to normal. But before Shane disappears again, there are a few questions she needs answered.
Casting & Production Updates:
Hold your horses! The TV series is still in its pre-production phase. There has been no casting news yet, and we are also dying to see who will play Eve and Shane.
On the bright side, we can confirm that the talented Felicia Pride will be the showrunner.
Prime Video has successfully executed most of its adaptations, including Maxton Hall. Fingers crossed that they do this one justice, too!
