It’s officially announced that Lyla Sage’s Rebel Blue Ranch series is getting a TV adaptation! Fans of small-town romance and swoon-worthy cowboy heroes are already brimming with excitement!

Written by Lyla Sage, the first book in the series, Done and Dusted, will be the first to be adapted for the screen. Following its reception by fans, we can expect the other books to be adapted into subsequent seasons.

Lyla Sage began her writing career relatively recently, becoming a New York Times bestselling author for the Rebel Blue Ranch series. She lives in the Wild West and writes stories that feel like a warm breeze, honest laughter, and the kind of day you wish would never end.

Her debut novel, Done and Dusted, which was published in 2023, tells the story of Clementine “Emmy” Ryder, a former barrel-racing star sidelined by injury, who returns to her hometown and reignites old sparks with Luke, her brother’s best friend turned bar owner.

The emotional bachelors-and-saddle twist proved irresistible to readers. Since then, she has released Swift and Saddled, Lost and Lassoed in 2024, followed by Wild and Wrangled in early 2025, and all are standalone romances that are threaded together.

Her fan base is built on loyalty, and they can’t stop talking about or recommending her books, which are a must-read for anyone who loves broody cowboys and laugh-out-loud moments. That energy is precisely what makes the upcoming TV adaptation so promising.

If you are a fan of the books, you’re likely excited about the upcoming adaptation. So, let’s talk about everything we know about it!

What is the Plot of the Rebel Blue Ranch Series?

Since the books are being adapted for TV, we can expect all the fan-favorite and crucial moments to make it to the screen. However, you should expect some minor changes to occur, which will enhance the transition from books to screen.

The Rebel Blue Ranch series is set in the fictional town of Meadowlark, Wyoming, where love stories unfold against the backdrop of rodeos, vast skies, and the grit of ranch life.

Each book follows a different couple, but all are tied together by themes of second chances, healing, and the deep bonds of family and community. From barrel racers sidelined by injury to runaway brides and designers seeking a fresh start, the characters all find themselves drawn back to the ranch and to the people who challenge and change them.

At its heart, the series is about more than romance. Lyla Sage uses Meadowlark as a canvas to explore resilience, self-discovery, and what it means to belong. Whether it’s through rekindled first loves, enemies-to-lovers banter, or cowboys with stubborn hearts, each story blends humor, small-town charm, and the emotional pull of finding a place and a person to call home.

If you haven’t read the series yet, here’s the official synopsis of the first book to give you an idea of what to expect from the upcoming adaptation!

She’s off-limits, but he’s never been good at following the rules.

For the first time in her life, Clementine “Emmy” Ryder has no idea what she’s doing. She’s accomplished everything on her to-do list. She left her small hometown of Meadowlark, Wyoming, attended college, and built a career for herself by doing her favorite thing: riding horses. But after an accident makes it impossible for her to get back into the saddle, she has no choice but to return to the hometown she always wanted to escape.

Luke Brooks is Meadowlark’s most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. He’s also the unofficial fifth member of the Ryder family. As Emmy’s older brother’s best friend, Luke spent most of his childhood antagonizing her.

It’s been years since he’s seen her, but when she walks into his bar and back into his life, he can’t take his eyes off her. Despite his better judgment, he wants to do a whole lot more than just look at her.

Emmy’s got too much on her mind to think about romance. And Luke knows he should stay away from his best friend’s younger sister. But what if Luke is just what Emmy needs to get her spark back? Or will they both go up in flames?

When is the Rebel Blue Ranch TV series being released?

In March 2025, Deadline broke the news that Universal had acquired the rights to the bestselling book series, with plans to develop a TV series.

Since the adaptation was announced a little over a year ago, there have been no updates so far, as the series is in the early stages of production.

And so, no official release date has emerged yet, but with the adaptation in pre-production, many fans expect Meadowlark to come alive on screens by late 2026 at the earliest, or it may be out in 2027. And this release date is only possible if the production proceeds smoothly without any issues or delays.

Who is Developing the Rebel Blue Ranch TV Series?

Universal Television acquired the rights to adapt the first book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series.

Formally known as NBC Universal Television Studio, it’s an American television studio that was founded in 2004. They have had several successful TV shows over the years, so fans can rest assured knowing their beloved series is in good hands.

As for the scriptwriter or director of the series, we don’t know who that is because it hasn’t been announced yet.

Should You Read the Books First?

Yes—especially if you want your emotional boots already dusty when the series premieres. Lyla Sage’s prose packs detail, humor, and quiet emotion into every chapter, which TV might tone for time. Reading first means you’ll catch every quirky barn scene, tiny smile, and emotional undercurrent.

Plus, by the time the episodes drop, you’ll know Meadowlark’s rhythms and can enjoy seeing your favorite cowboys come alive. Think of it like savoring the whole ranch before spending a summer inside it.

If not all the books in the series, then at least read the first book. It features Luke and Emmy and tells a story with several popular romance tropes, including brother’s best friend, small-town romance, slow burn, and, most importantly, cowboy romance.

If you enjoy the book, you will love the following books even more. Once you’ve read the books, you will be ready for the release of the Rebel Blue Ranch TV series!
