Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash TV series has been announced, and Sony Pictures Television has acquired the rights for the series!
This is a fantasy romance series by Jennifer L. Armentrout containing 6 books at the moment, with book 7 announced. The first book in the series, titled From Blood and Ash, was published in 2020, and book 6, titled The Primal of Blood and Bone, came out in 2025.
The 7th and final book in the series, The Throne of Bone and Ash, has been announced, but it doesn’t yet have a release date.
The book series is about a young woman named Poppy, a “Maiden,” who is never to be touched, looked upon, or spoken to. She wants to fight against the evil forces who took her parents away from her, but that choice is not hers; all she can do is wait for her “Ascension.”
This series was written by Jennifer L. Armentrout, a prolific author who has written several other series; most of her books have reached number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
Another series, Flesh and Fire, is set in the same world as the Blood and Ash series and serves as a prequel! Apart from these two series, the author has also worked on series like Covenant, Titan, Lux, Dark Elements, The Harbinger, and more.

Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Blood and Ash series is an ongoing book series with 6 published books. In the first book, titled From Blood and Ash, we meet Poppy, a Maiden awaiting Ascension, which she doesn’t want.
She wants to fight with the guards against those who took her family. However, her fate changes when she gets involved with Hawke, a guard who is supposed to protect her. As a maiden, Poppy has to live a solitary life with no contact with others, but the presence of Hawke makes her forget everything she believes in.
Throughout the series, she and Hawke go through quite a lot in this captivating fantasy romance.
However, the series isn’t just about romance; a lot is happening in the world. Many events are connected to Poppy, and whether she likes it or not, she will play a much more significant role in shaping the future.
As this is a book series, not a standalone novel, it was the right decision to adapt it into a TV series rather than a movie.
With multiple episodes per season, the TV format could flesh out the characters and provide a more comprehensive story without straying from the elements that made the books a worldwide phenomenon.
Is The Release Date For The From Blood and Ash TV Series Announced?
On March 9, 2023, it was announced that From Blood and Ash would get a TV series adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios acquired the rights to the series.
However, that’s no longer the case because, as of December 2024, Sony Pictures Television has acquired the rights to the series after Amazon Studios let them expire.
The TV adaptation of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s book series is currently under development at Sony, and considering that the production house stepped in without wasting any time, they might be pretty serious about the adaptation!
Given that it’s been over a year since Sony announced the TV series, there has been no update on the adaptation’s production stage. As such, we don’t have a release date for the TV series!
What is the Cast of the From Blood and Ash TV Series?
As we said above, the adaptation is still in its very early stages of development, so the casting process hasn’t even begun, let alone been announced.
This doesn’t mean fans can’t engage in some fan-casting; they’ve already started discussing which actors and actresses should play the main characters. It’s unlikely these actors or actresses will be cast for the role, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to engage in!
Who is Developing the From Blood and Ash TV Series?
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television got the rights to the From Blood and Ash adaptation and will produce the series.
Currently, there are no announcements regarding who will handle the series behind the scenes, so we don’t know who the director or writer is at this stage!
Sony has successfully adapted Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander, which has had a successful multi-season run, so fans have high expectations that the production house will do justice to Jennifer L. Armentrout’s fantasy series, too!
