Thursday Murder Club Book Series – Brief Summary & How to Read:
1. The Thursday Murder Club (2020)
Retirement is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s great that you are finally done with work and have all this free time. On the other… you have all this free time. There are only so many hobbies a person can do to fill the hours in a day.
This is the conundrum four people, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron, find themselves having in the retirement village they live in. Due to their sheer boredom, they become friends and discover they all have an interest in true crime through their talks. It leads to them forming the “Thursday Murder Club,” which has them get together once a week to talk about unsolved crimes.
It’s just all fun and games. They aren’t real detectives until a murder happens close to home. The victim is a developer local to the area and near his body was a strange photograph. Now, these amateur detectives have to solve this murder before more victims are claimed.
2. The Man Who Died Twice (2021)
The exciting sequel has the four Thursday Murder Club members thrilled with the fact that they have just solved an actual murder. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim are more than happy to go back to their weekly meetings, which involve them just discussing unsolved murders every week.
It’s club member Elizabeth who forces the next case on the Thursday Murder Club. An old friend, accused of stealing expensive diamonds, seeks her assistance. Who else but a successful amateur detective to help?
This leaves Elizabeth with no choice but to look to her friends to help solve this case. Of course, when bodies start piling up, it becomes much more complicated. Once again, the Thursday Murder Club finds themselves not only in the center of a murder mystery but also a stolen diamond mystery to boot.
We’ll see if this amateur detective club can be as successful as they were with the first murder they solved.
3. The Bullet That Missed (2022)
The exciting third book in the series finds the Thursday Murder Club embroiled in yet another crime. It’s not like they intended to get themselves involved in another one. They were more than happy to go back to their weekly meetings where they discussed unsolved murders.
Currently, their interest is focused on a case that is decades old. Through a series of events, the amateur detectives once again find themselves involved in the mystery. At the same time, one of their own is going through a difficult and dangerous situation.
Elizabeth has become the target of someone who views them as her nemesis. They give her a choice to either kill or be killed. This is yet another problem the Thursday Murder Club has to solve because they won’t let their friend fall victim to anything.
Will the club be able to solve the murder and save Elizabeth at the same time? One can only hope.
4. Untitled – Thursday Murder Club Book 4 (Expected September 2023)
Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim met at their retirement village, and despite their differences, they formed a friendship. All of them have an interest in true crime, so they created the Thursday Murder Club, where they meet up once a week to discuss unsolved crimes.
After a crime occurred locally, the club members became amateur detectives. Since then, they’ve solved that crime and others. It has led to them making quite a reputation for themselves in the small retirement village and beyond its borders.
Currently, the fourth book in this book series is untitled. It is set to come out sometime during fall 2023, so there are only a few more months to wait. This will be the final book in the series and the last time we get to see the Thursday Murder Club solve some murders.
It’ll be worth the wait. Richard Osman will surely deliver a grand finale in this series that will have us on the edge of our seats.
