Freida McFadden’s Never Lie Movie Is Officially in the Works at Netflix!

In case you completely missed it, Freida McFadden’s Never Lie movie is happening. Netflix holds the rights, a real production company is attached, and BookTok has been losing it since the news broke.

If you tore through this book in one sitting, you’ve probably already cast it in your head.

Here’s the catch, though. We’re early. Like, very early. So before you start refreshing this page for a trailer, let’s walk through what’s actually confirmed.

Freida McFadden’s breakthrough came with her novel, The Housemaid, in 2022. This novel ultimately cemented her place on the New York Times bestseller list. Of course, Hollywood tuned in immediately.

The film adaptation of The Housemaid premiered in December 2025, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. It went on to earn more than $380 million worldwide. To no one’s surprise, a sequel is already in development. Meanwhile, adaptations of The Tenant and The Teacher are also underway.

Now Never Lie, another one of her bestselling novels, is headed to the screen as Netflix continues to expand McFadden’s growing presence in film and television.

So what do we actually know about the Never Lie movie adaptation? At this point, not much.

Netflix has the rights, while Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment is adapting the novel. Other than that, details remain scarce. There is no cast, confirmed director, or release date yet.

What Is the Never Lie Movie Adaptation About?

Tricia and Ethan are newlyweds, and they’re hunting for the kind of first home you settle into for good. One property stops them cold. It’s a grand, remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a famous psychiatrist who vanished without a trace years ago. They tour it anyway.

Then a blizzard rolls through, shutting down the roads and leaving them trapped inside for the night.

While exploring the dusty rooms, Tricia stumbles onto a hidden space she was clearly never meant to find. Inside sit audio recordings of Dr. Hale’s private therapy sessions, and Tricia simply cannot stop herself from pressing play.

Now, a quick heads up for the book fans reading this, with one eyebrow already raised. This is a single feature film, not a multi-episode series, so expect real changes from page to screen. Movies compress timelines, cut side characters, and tighten everything.

A tape-heavy story needs clever reworking to land. The novel relies heavily on transcripts and flashbacks, elements that often require changes when adapted for film. Some scenes and revelations may unfold differently on screen, but the story’s underlying tension should remain intact.

Here is the publisher’s official synopsis for the novel:

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for the house of their dreams.

But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate… with no chance of escape until the blizzard comes to an end.

In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room. One that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. Hale has ever interviewed. As Tricia listens to the cassette tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Hale’s mysterious disappearance.

Tricia plays the tapes one by one, late into the night. With each one, another shocking piece of the puzzle falls into place, and Dr. Adrienne Hale’s web of lies slowly unravels.

And then Tricia reaches the final cassette.

The one that reveals the entire horrifying truth.

Casting & Production Updates:

While Netflix has kept most details under wraps, a few key names are already attached behind the scenes. Shawn Levy is producing through 21 Laps Entertainment under the company’s first-look feature deal with Netflix.

Shawn Levy previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine and serves as an executive producer on Stranger Things.

He is joined by longtime collaborators Dan Levine and Dan Cohen, who produce many of 21 Laps’ projects. Brittney Haas is overseeing the adaptation for the company as it moves through development.

As for the cast, no actors have been announced. Netflix has yet to name a director, although some fans have speculated that Levy could take on the role himself. For now, however, the project’s creative team, both in front of and behind the camera, remains largely a mystery.

Never Lie Movie Release Date:

There is no release date for the movie adaptation of Freida McFadden’s Never Lie. Netflix has stayed notably quiet about the project since announcing the adaptation in 2024. While that may seem frustrating for fans, it’s fairly typical for a film that is still in the early stages of development.

Until a cast and a director officially lock in, any specific date circulating online is simply speculation. So reread the book, argue about who should play Tricia, and keep watching Netflix for the first real update.
