The movie’s plot will be similar to that of the book; however, the writers might take some liberty to condense the book’s plot to fit the movie’s runtime better.
The plot of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue tells the story of a woman who wants to live forever. She is in 1717 France, desperate and unsure how she will survive. So what does Addie LaRue do? She makes a bargain with the devil himself to be immortal. It sounds like a dream come true!
But there is a catch. Everyone she ever meets in the course of her life is going to forget her. It doesn’t matter what she does, they will never be able to remember her.
Addie is devastated, but she has no choice but to continue living her life, and something happens after three hundred years. She meets a man, and instead of forgetting her, he remembers her name!

The movie is still in a pre-production stage. While the film adaptation was announced well ahead of the book’s release, there was no movement made until September 2022, when the author herself posted a picture of the script on Instagram.
Variety published an interview with the author in June this year, where she talked about her many book adaptations, including The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
She mentioned that Lionsgate had acquired the film, and it is the closest to being made into a movie out of all her books that have been acquired for TV/movie adaptations.
Who is the Cast & Crew of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue Movie?
As of August 2025, the script has been finished and rights to the film are with Lionsgate, but the cast for who will play who in the movie is still up in the air.
So, there is no cast announced for the movie, but as the script is done, it won’t be long to finalize the cast and get on with the project.
Who is Developing The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue Movie Adaptation?
Originally, Schwab had drafted an early version of the script, but she is serving as a producer for the movie adaptation currently. Augustine Frizzel, who has directed Never Going Back and The Last Letter From Your Lover, was hired to not only direct the film adaptation but also write the script.
David Lowery, her husband, who is known for The Green Knight, also worked on the script with her. As for the author, fans can rest easy knowing that she will be involved with the movie’s adaptation on some level to ensure the highest quality work possible.
