Taylor Jenkins Reid has quickly become one of the most loved authors right now. Her novels, many of which blend historical fiction and romance genres, explore themes of fame, identity, and the complex intersections of personal ambition and relationships, resonating deeply with readers.

It therefore makes sense that several of her books are now being developed for film and television. If you don’t know which of her books are getting onscreen adaptations, then this article will tell you every Taylor Jenkins Reid book that’s becoming a movie or a TV show!

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing career spans various genres—from historical fiction in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to contemporary romance and even sports-driven stories such as Carrie Soto Is Back.

Her breakout success was bolstered by Daisy Jones & The Six, which was adapted into a Prime Video miniseries. That project not only introduced her work to even larger global audiences but also demonstrated that her novels can be translated into compelling screen narratives. Her other book, One True Loves, also received a movie adaptation, which was released in 2023.

Her ability to write emotionally rich characters, especially women in complex situations, makes her stories not only readable but also eminently watchable. You know, when you read a book and you think this would make a great movie, that’s the feeling reading Reid’s books gives you!

In recent years, we have seen a surge in books being acquired for movie or TV adaptations, and being one of the most influential authors of today, it’s only natural that Taylor Jenkins Reid would be at the top of that list.

From Malibu Rising to Forever, Interrupted, fans are eagerly anticipating how these stories will transition from page to screen. In this article, we’ll walk through each of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s announced adaptations and everything we know about them!

All Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Book to Screen Adaptations:

1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

The author’s 2017 novel, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, follows a legendary Hollywood actress who, at age 79, decides to finally reveal the truth behind her seven marriages.

She enlists the unknown journalist Monique Grant to write her story, and what unfolds is a tale of glamour, ambition, sacrifice, and secrets long buried.

Netflix is adapting the book into a feature film. Liz Tigelaar will write the script, and Margaret Chernin will executive produce.

Originally, Leslye Headland was hired to direct, but she has since stepped away, with Maggie Betts taking over her role. Although no cast or release date has been confirmed, the project remains one of the most highly anticipated adaptations in Reid’s catalog.

2. Malibu Rising

Malibu Rising, published in 2021, is set in 1980s California and centers on the Riva siblings, whose lives come together at one unforgettable party in Malibu.

The novel mixes family drama, fame, legacy, and the explosive cost of public lives colliding with private wounds.

Hulu has acquired the rights to adapt the book into a limited television series. Liz Tigelaar is overseeing the project, though casting announcements have not yet been made.

The series remains in early development, with no release date announced, but the story’s rich drama and glamorous coastal setting make it a natural fit for the screen.

3. Atmosphere: A Love Story

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s newest novel, Atmosphere, published in 2025, is already lined up for an adaptation. The book tells the story of Joan Goodwin, a NASA astronaut in the early 1980s, and her unexpected romance with another woman, Vanessa Ford.

Set against the backdrop of the Space Shuttle program, it explores ambition, love, secrecy, and what it meant for women to carve their place in science and history.

The adaptation is being developed as a feature film by Laika Studios, with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck attached to direct. While casting and release dates are still under wraps, this project has already sparked interest for its blend of history, science, and romance.

4. Carrie Soto Is Back

Published in 2022, Carrie Soto Is Back tells the story of a retired tennis champion who comes out of retirement in the 1990s to reclaim her Grand Slam record from a younger rival.

Netflix is adapting the book into a television series, with tennis legend Serena Williams attached as an executive producer.

Though no cast or release date has been confirmed yet, the combination of the author’s dramatic storytelling and Williams’s involvement makes this adaptation one to watch closely.

5. Forever, Interrupted

forever, interrupted tv adaptation

Forever, Interrupted, Reid’s debut novel, tells the heartbreaking story of Elsie and Ben, whose whirlwind romance is tragically cut short. After Ben’s sudden death, Elsie is left to pick up the pieces and forge an unexpected connection with Ben’s mother, whom she has never met.

The novel shifts between past and present, exploring themes of love, grief, and healing.

Netflix is developing a limited series adaptation with A24, with Laura Dern and Margaret Qualley attached to both star and executive produce.

While no release date has been set, the pairing of these acclaimed actors with A24’s storytelling pedigree suggests a deeply emotional adaptation.

Which Adaptation Will We See First?

With so many Taylor Jenkins Reid projects in the works, fans naturally want to know which one will hit screens first.

Based on current development timelines, Forever, Interrupted and Malibu Rising appear to be furthest along, with established production teams, major talent attached, and scripts actively in development. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is also moving forward at Netflix, but casting delays mean it may take longer before cameras roll.

Meanwhile, Carrie Soto Is Back and Atmosphere are in earlier stages, with producers and directors confirmed, but little else has been officially announced. These projects will likely follow once the others pave the way.
