S.A. Cosby has been one of the most exciting voices in crime fiction for years, and I have been waiting for Hollywood to treat his work with the level of seriousness it deserves. This might be the one.
Netflix has ordered All the Sinners Bleed, a nine-episode limited series adapted from S.A. Cosby’s Southern noir novel of the same name. And the team assembled to bring it to life is genuinely extraordinary.
According to NPR, Cosby is “one of the best-known names in the new, wonderfully diverse wave of crime fiction writers,” and this novel was not only a New York Times bestseller, but also appeared on former President Barack Obama’s summer reading list.
That detail becomes even more interesting when you see who’s producing.
What Is All the Sinners Bleed About?

All the Sinners Bleed is a Southern noir novel set in the American South. The story follows Titus Crown, the first Black sheriff in a small Bible Belt county, who must lead the hunt for a serial killer who has quietly been preying on his Black community for years in the name of God.
It is tense, atmospheric, morally complex, and deeply rooted in the specific textures of the American South. Cosby writes about place and community with a vividness that very few crime writers can match.
Haunted by his devout mother’s untimely death, Titus Crown must navigate not just a murder investigation, but questions of faith, justice, and what it means to protect a community that has always had to protect itself.
The serial killer angle is gripping. But this story is about so much more than the crime.
The Creative Team Behind the Series
This is where things get truly exciting, because the names attached to this project are exceptional.
Joe Robert Cole, whose previous credits include Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Class of ’09, American Crime Story, and All Day and a Night, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. He will also direct the first and select episodes of the series.
Cole shared what drew him to the material: “The specificity of the world S.A. Cosby created truly swept me away, and Titus Crown seized my heart.” When a writer of that caliber says a story seized his heart, you pay attention.
Higher Ground Productions, Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, will executive produce the series alongside Amblin Television and Cosby himself. The Obama connection suddenly makes a lot of sense given where this novel landed on reading lists.
And then there’s the score. Academy Award–winning composer Hans Zimmer and his composer collective Bleeding Fingers Music will score All the Sinners Bleed.
Zimmer described the project beautifully:
“All the Sinners Bleed lives in the tension between faith, violence, and redemption—the kind of moral complexity where music speaks most powerfully.”
That is exactly the right way to describe this story.

Let me be very direct: this cast is stacked.
Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, known for Gangs of London and Black Rabbit, leads the series as Titus Crown. He is one of the most compelling actors working today, and watching him carry a nine-episode noir series set in the American South feels like the perfect pairing of actor and material.
The cast also includes Nicole Beharie as Darlene Taylor, John Douglas Thompson as Albert Crown, Titus’s father, and Daniel Ezra as Marquis Crown.
Murray Bartlett joins as Scott Cunningham, alongside Andrea Cortés as Deputy Carla Ortiz, and Giancarlo Esposito as Ezekiel Wiggins.
Academy Award nominee Amy Madigan joins as guest star Scarlett Cunningham, and Emmy-nominated Kelly Jenrette appears in a recurring role as Helen Crown.
Every single name in that lineup is a reason to be excited about this series.
Production Updates
Things are moving fast on this one.
Filming started in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2025 and has already wrapped up. The series is now officially in post-production, which means we may not have to wait too long before this lands on Netflix.
No official release date has been announced yet, but given the production timeline, sometime in 2027 seems plausible. We’ll update as soon as a date is confirmed.
