Legally Blonde Prequel Series, ELLE, is Releasing in July 2026

We can’t contain our excitement! Guess who is coming back to our screens in 2026? Well, if you haven’t heard, the ‘Legally Blonde’ film franchise is getting a prequel TV series. And yes, this only means one thing: Elle Woods is back!

It took 25 years to finally give the fans what they wanted, and we owe a load of gratitude to Amazon for making it all happen. The show had been languishing in development purgatory under MGM until Amazon took over back in 2023. After buying MGM, Amazon set off to work on a comedy TV series that will follow Elle Woods before she joined Harvard Law.

Unbeknownst to many, Amanda Brown’s 2001 novel of the same name served as the inspiration for the original Legally Blonde films. Amanda Brown actually dropped out of Stanford Law to concentrate on writing the Legally Blonde novel.

Initially, most publishers rejected the book, but things worked out in the end. Even before the book’s publication, Amanda successfully secured the film rights. Subsequently, the novel has inspired not only the films but also a Broadway musical and, now, a TV series.

What’s the Plot of the Elle TV Series?

The official logline from Prime Video reads as follows:

“Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”

In an interview with Variety, Reese Witherspoon shared her excitement over the project, saying, “I think our series’s themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike. Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon, and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy.”

She also revealed the good news that the show has been renewed for a second season ahead of the first season premiere.

Who are the Cast & Crew of the Elle TV Series?

Reese Witherspoon is the executive producer in this latest Legally Blonde adaptation. She is joined by Laura Kittrell, who is the showrunner. Reese personally chose rookie actress Lexi Minetree to portray the role of Elle Woods.

The other main characters include Tom Everett Scott as Wyatt Woods, Elle’s father, and June Diane Raphael as Eva Woods, Elle’s mother.

Chandler Kinney will be bringing Kimberly’s role to life.

Jacob Moskovitz will play Miles, while Gabrielle Policano will play Liz, and lastly Zac Looker will play Dustin.

Kayla Maisonet and James Van Der Beek will be joining the cast in key recurring roles.

Elle TV Series Release Date:

The first season is set to premiere on July 1, 2026. Fans of the Legally Blonde franchise have already settled in with their popcorn. This is one of the most anticipated TV releases of the year.

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the casting of Lexi Minitree, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Witherspoon. Some critics are worried about the plot and whether it will diminish Elle Woods’ growth from the movies. There have also been concerns about how well the series will capture the 90s’ vibes.

Either way, we are excited to see the series finally getting the green light. It has been 25 years in the making, and you can bet that we will be watching come July 1!
