Quicksilver Movie Adaptation – Release Date, Cast, Plot and All We Know!

I have some excellent news for you romantasy lovers! Callie Hart’s Quicksilver, the dark romantasy sensation of last year, is officially headed to Netflix!

The streaming giant acquired the movie rights to this BookTok phenomenon in a 7-figure deal, and fans are already buzzing about who will be cast as Saeris and Kingfisher, and when we will see them on screen!

Since its debut in June 2024, Quicksilver has practically dominated the romantasy circles and has earned only positive reviews from readers. It became so popular on BookTok and Bookstagram that the author didn’t have to wait long to sell the adaptation rights.

In just the first few months after its release, it was mentioned on TikTok over 3 million times, showing how popular it became in a very short time!

It wasn’t a question of if but when this romantasy novel would be picked up for a book-to-screen adaptation, and the answer came within months. In December 2024, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to the Quicksilver movie adaptation, and Callie Hart officially shared the news with her fans online!

I am sure you are super excited about the details for the upcoming movie adaptation of Quicksilver, which is the first book in the Fae & Alchemy series, and want to know when it will be released and who will be cast to portray your favorite characters. So, let’s go through all the details revealed for the film so far!

quicksilver movie release date

Callie Hart’s Quicksilver Movie Adaptation – Release Date:

Since the movie adaptation was announced a little over a year ago, there is no release date for the project yet.

The adaptation is still in pre-production, so it will be a while before the streaming giant reveals when the film will be released. But that’s not what we should be concerned about.

The movie and TV rights to several books are being sold, but sometimes the project gets stalled, or the adaptation rights expire and revert to the author.

And as we all know, Netflix is notorious for cancelling shows, so let’s hope we at least get one movie based on the first book before the streamer decides whether to axe it or continue adapting the book’s sequels.

Quicksilver Movie’s Production Update – Who is the Cast & Crew?

As the project is still in the pre-production stage, nothing has been revealed. In fact, there is no writer attached to the project, so the scripting hasn’t even started.

There’s a chance that things are moving smoothly behind the scenes and the updates aren’t being actively shared, but unless we hear something solid from the author or the streamer, I am going to assume the movie is progressing very slowly.

What we do know is that Elizabeth Cantillon, who has worked on “Alien: Romulus” and the 2022 adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion,” is heading the development.

To ensure the film stays true to its roots and doesn’t stray too far from the source material that made the book so popular, Callie Hart will serve as an executive producer.

As for the movie’s cast, there are no updates. No casting announcements have been made, as it is still too early in the development.

What is the Plot of Callie Hart’s Quicksilver?

Callie Hart’s Quicksilver is a dark romance story with strong fantasy elements. The story follows 24-year-old Saeris Fane, whose life turns upside-down when she accidentally opens a portal to a perilous realm—and literally runs into the Fae Prince, Kingfisher.

As a dark romance novel, it contains a lot of spicy material that readers absolutely love. So, when the film adaptation is finally out, expect these scenes to make it to the screen!

The adaptation will more than likely follow the book’s plot closely. However, since it is being adapted into a feature-length movie rather than a multi-episode TV series, expect the plot to be condensed and some events removed to avoid making the movie too long.

If you want to know what exactly the film will be about, check out the book’s synopsis below!

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember.

But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed herself in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior with secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her.

Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he’s the only way Saeris is going to make it home.

Should You Read The Book Instead?

Since you are on this page, reading about the book becoming a movie and feeling the excitement, you have already read and loved it!

But if you haven’t read the book and only came to this article out of curiosity, I recommend you read it.

Callie Hart has created an incredible story, with a stunning cast of characters, and a rich fantasy world that is much better experienced in the book than in an adaptation. More often than not, it’s better to read the book than to watch the movie or TV adaptation. Since this book’s movie isn’t out yet, consider reading it, and I promise you’ll love it.
